Rainy Day Dogs

San Diego is the best city in the country to be a dog walker. Why? Because of the weather of course. 99% of the time it is sunny, warm, and beautiful. San Diego dogs love to walk in typical San Diego weather. They, like us,  get very spoiled in San Diego weather.. So what happens with spoiled San Diego dogs when we get rainy days like today? They do not want to go for a walk. As soon as you open the door and they see it is raining they make a beeline back into the house. And forget about trying to put on their raincoats. If you think they hate the rain, they hate the rainwear even more. So it becomes a battle of wits to get them outside just long enough to do their business. Treats will often work wonders but only for a few minutes. If they have to go potty really badly, they will often do it right away and then turn and run back to the house.

The only San Diego dogs I have encountered as a dog walker that LOVE being out in the rain are Golden Retrievers. Of course Golden Retrievers love pretty much everything and everyone so that really isn't surprising. The last time I walked one of the Goldens that I care for in the rain , he looked for puddles wherever he could find them and splashed in them like a little kid; his tail wagging as fast as can be. He was having so much fun, that even though I was soaked to the skin I couldn't help smiling and thinking , if there is such a thing as reincarnation, I want to come back as a Golden Retriever.
