Tomorrow is the famous International "Take Your Dog To Work Day" initiated by Pet Sitters International many years ago. For those of you who have well-socialized dogs, check with your employer and ask if you may bring your "furry kid" to the job. 1000,s of people around the world will be doing so. Have fun!

I recently had a consult for a pet sitting job where one of the cats has been diagnosed with Stomatitis. To better be able to care for this kitty I did some research on this illness. The information is worth sharing.
Stomatitis is is an inflammation of the oral cavity and can be very painful and even life-threatening.It is not that uncommon and can affect all breeds of cats. Symptoms include bad breath, red and inflamed gums and difficulty eating and swallowing. Many cats with Stomatitis have tooth resorption. |

I read an excellent article yesterday in "The Whole Dog Journal" written by Pat Miller, a knowledgeable and renowned dog trainer. The topic was vaccinations and socialization.
Most puppy owners are not aware that the critical socialization period for their dog is between 3 to 14 weeks. Since most puppies are not brought home until they are at least 8 weeks, one would hope that the breeders did some good socialization work with the little one before they went to their new home. However, there is still another 6 weeks of prime time to teach the puppy what a wonderful place the world can be. |

It's vacation time again and many of you are planning trips out of town for a weekend, a few days or a few weeks. For those of you who can take your "furry kids" with you, bravo. I think that is wonderful. If however, your cat, dog, bunny, bird, etc. is unable to join the family on their holidays , please be sure to schedule for their care early!
Whether you are planning to have your pet boarded, kenneled, or to have a pet sitter come and look after them, the best ones fill up quickly. |
