As a professional dog walker, I am a stickler for cleaning up after your dog does his business. The obvious reason is that it is the right thing to do; but beyond that, dog waste contaminates the water when it runs into our sewers. It is smelly, unpleasant to look at, and a horror to step in. It amazes me every time I come across a pile of dog poop that has been left by the owner; especially when a source of poop bags is within reach.
If you are planning on walking your dog, do not leave the house without poop bags or plastic bags of some sort. And take more than one. Sometimes the dog will need to go twice or three times on his walk. If you are walking the dog at night, take a flashlight so you are able to see where the dog has done his business. Just because it is dark out is no excuse to be irresponsible. Besides which, it is a good idea to have a flashlight with you anyway for safety reasons.
Once you have used the poop bag, please be sure to dispose of it in a proper receptacle.Just filling the bag is only part of the job and I continually see used bags just left on the street for someone else to pick up and throw out.
Being a responsible pet parent has a lot of different aspects to it, and cleaning up after your "furry kid" is one important one.
