In her regular blog called "Spot Speaks" by Dr. Nancy Kay, she discusses what kennel cough is and whether it is a wise choice to vaccinate your dog for it. She also talks about the various ways the vaccination can be administered. It is an excellent, informative piece and I highly recommend all dog parents read it.
Most doggie day cares, boarding facilities, and kennels require your dog to be inoculated for kennel cough with the Bordetella vaccine. But places like dog parks and grooming facilities generally do not; although these are also places where your dog can be exposed to kennel cough. Even with the vaccination, your canine pal can still end up with kennel cough as there are a variety of types and the vaccines do not target all of them.
Since you need to be your dog's advocate, it is important for you to be informed and make sound decisions on his/her behalf. Read Dr. Kay's blog at www.speakingforspot.com and speak to your veterinarian about the vaccine. Then make the best choice for your pooch.
