Forgive me for not blogging for a long time but I have been out of town visiting my family and most recently, attending the PSI convention in Indianapolis.
The convention was amazing. Of course it was extra special for me as I was crowned as PSI's Pet Sitter of the Year for 2013. They had a whole ceremony with pictures etc. which I hope to share with you soon. The line up of Speakers was awesome and I learned so much about caring for our wonderful pets. Topic sessions included: Geriatric Pets, Exotic Pets, Cats and Litter box issues, Aggressive dogs, Pet First Aid, End of Life Options for pets, Finding Missing pets, etc. I look forward to teaching my team members what I learned and having us all incorporate all of this wonderful knowledge into our already high level of care offered to our clients.
Another great part of the convention was meeting and networking with other like-minded professional dog walkers and pet sitters. There really is a huge difference between using the college kid who wants to earn some money on the side by caring for animals and the professional pet sitter who has invested time, energy and money honing her skills, gaining experience and constantly learning how to be better and what we do.
For those of you who have not used the services of a professional dog walker or pet sitter to care for your "kids", I urge to try one the next time. Be sure the sitter you choose is a member of a professional organization such as PSI, and that they are Insured, Bonded, Pet First Aid Certified and hopefully a Certified Pet Sitter as well. Trust me there is a difference in the quality of care your pets will receive and the peace of mind you will have as a result.
Til next time,
