One of my clients sent me an email a few days ago asking my advice. Apparently, a neighbor who lives upstairs in her apartment complex has two dogs that she leaves on the balcony all day and all evening. One of the dogs is a puppy. Whenever my neighbor went out or returned home, the dogs were on that balcony. When the evening temperatures went down to less than 45 degrees those poor dogs were still outside.  Upset by this situation, my client contacted me to ask my opinion as to how this  should be handled in the best interests of the dogs. I advised her to contact the management of the apartment complex and see if they could do anything. I also told her to call  the Department of Animal Services to possibly initiate an investigation.

I followed up with my client yesterday. She had indeed contacted the apartment management who intervened and the dogs are no longer on the balcony. Hallelujah!

If you encounter a potential abuse situation, please do not worry about being a snitch. Be responsible and do something about what you have seen or heard. Pets cannot speak for themselves. They need us to be their voice!
