On Monday morning I awoke to find a text message from a client and neighbor at my apartment complex. Her dog was missing and she wanted some help finding it. Apparently, around 9:00 p.m. the previous night she had let her two dogs out the front door, unleashed and uncollared, to go for a potty break. She does this routinely and they always come back in the apartment in a few minutes. This particular night, her little dog decided to venture off on her own for awhile. Although my client called and searched , the little dog was not to be found. After I got the text in the morning, I went out calling for the dog through the complex. I had no success. When the leasing office opened in the morning, my client reported her missing dog.. To make a long story short, the dog had been found the previous night by a non-resident and taken to her home. The next morning she took the collarless dog to the vet to see if she had been microchipped. She had and the dog was returned to her owner later that day. There are a few very important messages here. DO NOT let your dogs wander around off leash. It only takes a minuted for them to run off. DO NOT let your dogs go out, ever, without their collars and ID. And lastly, ALWAYS get your pets microchipped. It may be the only thing that gets them back home to you. |
