The Humane Society of the United States has declared the last Tuesday of February each year as Spay Day to bring attention to the importance of Spay/Neutering. Every year between 4-5 million companion animals are euthanized in this country due to pet over-population.These animals are healthy and adoptable but due to the lack of homes for them, they are needlessly killed. Spay/Neutering our companion animals, feral cats, and street dogs is a proven way to dramatically lower pet over-population and to save lives. |

A few years ago I picked up a lovely little card with a quote from Rabindranath Tagore that goes like this" " I slept and dreamed that life was JOY. I awoke and saw that life was SERVICE. I acted and behold, SERVICE WAS JOY". I saw how true that was today while making cat and dog food deliveries for PAWS San Diego. PAWS is a non-profit organization that provides free pet food, litter, and other services to San Diegans who are below the poverty-line, elderly, disabled and/or chronically ill. |

There is pending legislation to repeal the Animal Adoption Mandate better known as Hayden's Law. We need your voice to make sure this does not happen.
In
a nutshell, the Animal Adoption Mandate (Hayden Law) repeal eliminates
a state requirement that municipal animal shelters hold stray dogs and
cats for 4-6 days (depending on the hours that the shelter is open to
the public to redeem or adopt animals) and reverts back to the old law
of holding them for 72 hours before killing/euthanizing them. |

I just returned from the Morris Animal Foundation K-9 Cancer Walk in San Marcos. What a wonderful event. There were hundreds of people walking with their furry kids. I am sure they raised many thousands of dollars for canine cancer research. This year we had perfect weather and the venue was superb. There were numerous vendors with wonderful goods, services and information to be had. I must commend the event sponsors and organizers for a job extremely well done. This was my second year attending this event and I am sure I will return next year. |
