Does Your Dog Have A Toothache?

February is National Pet Dental Health Month so before the month ends I wanted to share some important information  with you about your pooch's teeth and gums.

Would you know if your dog had a toothache or sore gums ? Most pet parents would not, but just like us, toothaches and gum disease can occur in dogs and can be very painful. Since dogs rarely show signs of dental pain, it is important for you to know what to look for so you can get them the help they need. Here are some pointers from WedMD to help you.

Using A Lock Box Could Save Your Pet's Life

I met with a client yesterday for a cat sit consultation and we had a discussion about the key to her home. Most of the time, clients will give me a copy of the key to their home so I have access to care for their animals. Usually, they tell me to hold onto it for future use, but sometimes they want it returned so they can use it for other guests who visit etc. My client yesterday, uses a lock box that is attached to  her front door. Instead of having to give a key to each person who needs access such as cleaning lady, guest, pet sitter etc.

All They Have Is Us

I had a wonderful consultation with a new client the other day I want to share with you, and  Valentine's Day is the perfect time.

I met a young dad who just recently adopted his little terrier from the Escondido Humane Society. The furry little guy is just about the cutest little thing I have seen in a long time and very playful and affectionate. I fell in love with him immediately. But what really touched my heart, is that this new pet parent also had a 10 year old daughter. Before they  adopted their new little pooch, the dad sat down with his daughter to talk to her about the responsibility and commitment of bringing a pet into the family.

Valentine's Day

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. A day to celebrate LOVE! Most people think of the day as a celebration of people love. The Valentine's Day cards available are for husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandchildren, sweethearts, friends, daughters, sons, nieces and nephews, aunts , uncles, and even teachers...but none are designed for our "furry kids". Perhaps that is because our companion animals can't read! Do you think?
At any rate, I believe the day should also be a celebration of our love for the wonderful animals that give us unconditional love every day.

World Spay Day

February 26, 2013isWorld Spay Day, an annual campaign of the HSUS and Humane Society International that shines a spotlight on spay/neuter—a proven way to save the lives of companion animals, feral cats, and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in a shelter or killed on the street.
The problem is simply pet-overpopulation. There is just not enough room in shelters, rescues and humane societies for all the cats and dogs that need forever homes, so between 4-5 million of perfectly healthy adoptable animals are killed every year here in this country.
