I am embarrassed to say that I just found out what bully sticks are made of and decided I should share it with you, just in case you don't know either. Bull or steer PENIS! That is correct. For some reason I never really thought about it before but in my latest "Your Dog " journal, there is a brief article on bully sticks. Not only was I surprised to learn what they are made of but also to learn that they are considered a by-product and are RAW. Just like any raw food they may be contaminated with bacteria that can cause illness in both pets and people and therefore should be handled accordingly. |

I just learned about this project this morning on the Animal Rescue Site. The message: "Some dogs just need space".
Although many people do their best to socialize their puppies so they will not grow up with fears and the possibility of aggression that goes with it, unfortunately, not all puppies are well-socialized. Even as adults, dogs can be trained to get over many of their fears with patience, understanding and a lot of love. Yet some dogs, due to a traumatic upbringing or incident, or just because it is part of their innate character, are fearful and fearful dogs need to be left alone and given space. |

I just have to share with you the most wonderful book I have been reading by Ted Kerasote, the author of"Merle's Door". In fact, if you loved"Merle's Door"you are going to be blown away by "Pukka's Promise: The Quest for Longer-Lived Dogs" This book has got everything. It is funny, happy, sad, interesting, provocative and loaded with fantastic information for dog owners and lovers. Kerasote did an incredible amount of research putting this book together and the facts he has to share are eye-opening. |
