I just learned about this project this morning on the Animal Rescue Site. The message: "Some dogs just need space". Although many people do their best to socialize their puppies so they will not grow up with fears and the possibility of aggression that goes with it, unfortunately, not all puppies are well-socialized. Even as adults, dogs can be trained to get over many of their fears with patience, understanding and a lot of love. Yet some dogs, due to a traumatic upbringing or incident, or just because it is part of their innate character, are fearful and fearful dogs need to be left alone and given space. A group of concerned and caring pet owners who have fearful dogs came up with the idea of creating a symbol to let people know that their dog is fearful and should not be approached. Although it is always wise to ask the dog's handler if you can say hello, not everyone does, so this symbol, a yellow ribbon tied to the dog's collar or leash, is designed to communicate, Please Stay Away. If you have a fearful dog, please join the movement and put a yellow ribbon on it's collar or leash. Please pass this information on to others so that this symbol can become universal and can keep fearful dogs at ease and people safe. Thanks |
