For those of you living in the San Diego area you know it has been hot as Hedes the last couple of days and will continue today and tomorrow. For the rest of you, summer is on its way and that means warm and hot temperatures. Please keep your pets safe during the heat waves. Make sure they have plenty of cool, clean fresh water at all times. Take water with you on your walks with the dogs. Keep dogs in the shade when possible and do not over-exert them especially in the middle of the day. Keep dogs off black asphalt when you go for walks. It gets really hot and can burn their foot pads. Dogs should not be left outside when it is this hot unless they have a very large shaded area for shelter and a big container of fresh cold water. Try to walk dogs in the early am or evening after the sun goes down. Watch for signs of heatstroke with dogs when walking or hiking in hot weather. NEVER NEVER leave a dog in a parked car, even for 5 minutes!!!!! Keep your smarts about you and your pets will stay healthy and happy. |
