I found an interesting and exciting article in the digital version of "Veterinary Practice News" this morning. Apparently, a Los Angeles company is working on a new microchip that would be implanted in dogs and cats called "Escape Alert".
Traditionally, the rice-sized microchips that are currently implanted in our pets, contain only the information on who their owner is and how to contact them. In order to get our lost pets back, a good Samaritan would have to find our dog or cat, take them to a veterinary clinic or shelter and have them scanned for a microchip. |

Animal Services is joining forces with Finding Rover to become the first animal sheltering organization in the nation to use the facial recognition app to reunite lost dogs with their owners. The app uses snapshots to match the faces of lost dogs with those that have been found or admitted to one of the three County shelters, and it allows pet owners, shelters or anyone to look for the animals with a smartphone or computer. The facial recognition technology shows possible matches within seconds. |

Forgive me for not blogging for a long time but I have been out of town visiting my family and most recently, attending the PSI convention in Indianapolis. The convention was amazing. Of course it was extra special for me as I was crowned as PSI's Pet Sitter of the Year for 2013. They had a whole ceremony with pictures etc. which I hope to share with you soon. The line up of Speakers was awesome and I learned so much about caring for our wonderful pets. Topic sessions included: Geriatric Pets, Exotic Pets, Cats and Litter box issues, Aggressive dogs, Pet First Aid, End of Life Options for pets, Finding Missing pets, etc. |
