Halloween night can be a dangerous and frightening experience for our furry kids. To make sure it is a happy and fun occasion for you all, it is essential to remember the following tips:
1) Although chocolate is a delicious treat for us, it is toxic to our pets. Be sure to keep those chocolate treats away from them. For small dogs and cats, even a small amount can make them very sick.
2) All Halloween candy prepared and packaged for humans is meant ONLY for humans. Keep your treats away form the pets. |

We have all seen them and some of you may have one or two - a dog that is very reactive to other dogs. I don't mean a dog who is super excited and wants to go and say hello. I am taking about the dogs that bark, lunge, twist and generally make themselves very difficult to hold on to when they see and sometimes hear another dog nearby.
Unfortunately, there are a great number of these dogs around. I know because I see them when I am walking dogs and I have certainly walked my share of them. |

A friend of mine gave me this copy of a poem purportedly written by Albert Schweitzer but possibly not. At any rate, it is definitely worth sharing.
"Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted, or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful."

I read about this news this am in an article posted by Lisa Bernier of the "Bark Post". The FBI just made animal cruelty a top-tier felony.
Last week the FBI re-categorized animal cruelty as a Class-A felony so abusers could potentially face jail time. This new listing makes it similar to major crimes such as assault, homicide and arson. The FBI definition of animal cruelty is as follows:
"Intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly taking an action that mistreats or kills any animal without just cause, such as torturing, tormenting, mutilation, maiming, poisoning, or abandonment. |
